Tried to get retractable step fixed in Springfield MO. Horrible traffic jam because of constructon but we made it through town. Stopped for gas and guess what?? the step went in all by itself. Went on anyway for them to check the AC but they were too busy. It's cool enough driving that it doesn't matter that much. Maybe it will just heal itself too. Had lunch in Braum's which is a chain. It has hamburgers etc in one section, ice cream and stuff in another and then a Fresh Market which is like a little grocery store. Kind of strange but busy so I guess it is a concept that works?? We bought some Braum ice cream but haven't tried it.
Well then, off again from Springfield. Great divided highway, Route 13, but a little weird because the other half disappears for long stretches so you are on what seems to be a one-way, 2-lane highway. Not much to see but relieved to be on relatively level land. Think we are coming into the plains.
Stopped at Osceola MO at cheese shop which must be THE stop along this route. Haven't tried it yet. Lots of Amish food, etc so I assume the cheese is too but I may be wrong. Been at this spot since 1944. They carry Burger's Smokehouse meat that we see advertised so we bought some sausage and pork jowls.
Stopped near Clinton at the western shallow end of Harry Truman Reservoir. See pictures of what Jack says is a thorn tree. Very pretty and giving us nice shade as we look at lake. Lots of birds. Got my next group of pages printed so I can get those done.
